Give a two-year-old some crayons and a large sheet of paper, and watch them go to town. Scribbles here, loops there, zigzags over everything. And you the good parent, will smile and say, “What a wonderful drawing!” because parental instinct tells you that a child being “creative” is a good thing and should be encouraged.

Parental instinct is correct. Through extensive research studies suggests that the more creative you are, the greater your potential.

Creativity is just as important as classroom skills. And guess what, the great news is creativity is not even hard. In fact it’s fun.

Improving your childs creativity is fun because play is at the heart of the process. It’s is through play that a child’s creativity is most fully and frequently expressed.

What are some ways to increase creativity? By choosing toys and games that not only interest your child but encourage them to use their imagination.

Some suggestions include:

Art Supplies such as crayons, finger paint, easels and paint sets can provide the most creativity and it also helps develop small motor skills.

Blocks have been around as a toy for nearly three hundred years. Friedrich Froebel the founder of modern kindergartens was the first to suggest blocks in different shapes as building units for making creative structures. Blocks today as well as various nesting and stacking toys are durable creative toys that teach your child the elements of building, balance, hand-eye coordination, shapes and sizes.

These are only some of toys that provide opportunities for children to explore and develop the wonderful world of creativity and imagination. Encouraging creativity in your child may be the most rewarding gift we can ever give our children.

“Whatever you can do or dream you can begin it,” wrote German poet and philosopher Goethe. “Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin it now.”
